This is an external, non-invasive massage technique that is designed to bring health to the pelvic and abdominal organs. Over the course of a woman’s life, the pelvic organs can become misaligned and congested, restricting the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and vital life force to the tissues. This restriction contributes to many common gynecological complaints.  These simple, ancient massage techniques help to restore health to the pelvic and abdominal areas.

Maintenance of pelvic health has been practiced in traditional cultures and taught by traditional healers for thousands of years. During the last century, these techniques have been largely suppressed and nearly forgotten. While modern medicine focuses on relieving symptoms, Maya Abdominal Massage targets the root cause of disease. In this way it helps to prevent the progression from symptoms to chronic disease.

Women who have had a hysterectomy can also benefit from the technique. Scar tissue and adhesions that can form following surgery are alleviated by the increased circulation and oxygen-rich blood brought into the pelvic area by the massage. It can further help to heal any of the emotional scarring that can linger after this type of surgery.

An appointment consists of an in-depth health history intake, abdominal, uterine and sacral bodywork, instruction in self-care technique to be used at home, recommendations for herbal support and other healing modalities. Massage of the pelvic area is not recommended during menstruation, for women with acute infection of the pelvis, immediately following surgery or for women with an IUD in place.
